“Younger people are needed”
Aiden began his trainee role with housing specialists Vistry Partnerships in January 2022. His role includes checking architects and specialist drawings, collating information and communicating with the site teams, architects and civil engineers.
Aiden really enjoys his job and although only at the start of his career he wants to progress as fast as possible and is being supported and funded to study for an HNC at college one day per week. Additionally, to support him further, Aiden has enrolled into a mentoring program within the wider Vistry Partnerships business and has a structured development plan in place for progression within his office. “I enjoy learning and, in this role, there is a lot of information about a completely new industry to me so I’m finding it very interesting. I like seeing how buildings come together and understanding how the whole process works. I’m looking forward to seeing a site through from start to finish – I think it will be rewarding knowing I have played a part in it.”
Aiden’s interest in the construction industry came through his Dad:
“My Dad works in the construction industry which led me to look into his job and I thought it would be an interesting career path. After my A Levels I thought that I would have to do an architecture degree but the chance to become a trainee came up and I took the opportunity. I’m well supported within both my office, and the business as a whole. I am learning a lot from the other specialists that I work with and their broad range of knowledge which is working well alongside following my structured development program created by my line manager. The mentoring program is also extremely useful and insightful as it has allowed me to communicate with co-workers across the country and in a different field to my own to expand my knowledge even further. My next step up the ladder I believe would be to become a Technical Co-Ordinator and one day have my own site to manage.”
