We are pleased to announce that our new Chair, Danielle Haskings of Willmott Dixon and Vice-Chair, Bernice Williams of LiveWest, have been appointed by our Steering Group this morning, Thursday 22 September. It was a unanimous vote to appoint them and they take over from Matthew Cousins of Apex Scaffolding and Phil Bailey of BAM.

Matthew has been Chair for the Project since its formation in 2018 and has, to date, lead 32 meetings in total over the last four years. We thank Matthew for giving up his time to help set the strategic direction for the project to help support the local construction sector, and also to Phil for his input and time.

Our new Chair, Danielle Haskings, Senior Social Value Manager at Willmott Dixon, says the following about taking on this role:

“In the world of construction, collaboration is key and that is shown in the success of Building Greater Exeter. Being able to work with people from various construction backgrounds to form a strategic plan for the city in regard to the future of industry is one of the reasons I joined the group. Taking this and my passion for community engagement and social impact, I am excited to take on the role of chair and help to steer the project as it enters its next chapter. As a collective, we have achieved 87yso much around education and employment in the Greater Exeter area and the results of the youth campaign speak for themselves. As we continue this success, I would also like to incorporate some new elements such as health and wellbeing and community projects to enhance the offering of the project whilst ensuring its success supporting the skills and recruitment challenges the city faces.”

Our new Vice-Chair, Bernice Williams, Director of Communications and Public Affairs at LiveWest, has added the following about taking on her role:

“I am inspired to apply for this role as Building Greater Exeter’s vision and purpose chime with my own values, having supported organisations with a core resolution of inspiring people. I am a strong believer in the power of sharing knowledge and skills to deliver positive outcomes for individuals and communities, and I hope to bring to this position my wide range of skills to further strengthen opportunities for individuals within construction and the built environment.”

Thank you to both Danielle and Bernice for stepping up to these roles and we look forward to working with them both to take the project forward.
