“It’s rewarding and exciting”

Olivia joined Coreus over two years ago and is a Project Manager, responsible for managing multiple projects across numerous sectors from the project inception through to completion. Olivia’s role involves managing the project throughout the design and construction phases, coordinating the project team, developing the project programme and undertaking risk management. She also has responsibility for client liaison, ensuring the client is up to date and fully aware of all progress and processes.

Coreus have funded and supported Olivia to study for a Masters in Construction Management and she is now studying for a RICS Chartership to become a Chartered Project Manager. She wants to continue to learn and work her way up in the organisation to manage a team of Project Managers as well as gain experience in different sectors.

“Every day in my job different. It’s more than a 9-5 kind of role and Coreus is a great place to work. It’s rewarding and exciting and I love working with people who have a shared aim and goal. The highlight is seeing a job through from start to finish.”

Olivia started her career in a completely different industry, working as a travel agent using her language skills. A friend working in construction recommended Coreus to her and she started her career with them as an Assistant Project Manager.

Olivia’s advice to anyone considering a career in the industry is:

“Gaining on-the-job experience is more important than any particular qualifications, there are so many supportive businesses here who are willing to help you grow and pay for you to get qualified. The salary and career progression is good and the workforce is becoming more diverse. Do some research into local construction companies and feel confident to ask questions.”
